Statement by Vice-President Su Xing: Distinguished guests and friends:
It is a great honour to be able to join you at this art event. Standing here and looking around at the wonderful work, I am filled with joy and sadness. Compared to the 2018 Summit and Renaissance Biennale, our current Asian Biennale demonstrates a more diverse and deeper artistic vibrancy.
One of the most striking changes has been the significant diversity of works. This exhibition not only contains works of art such as paint, oil painting, national painting, prints, watercolor, etc. This transition from relative concentration to a hundred flowers in full bloom greatly broadens our artistic horizon. The rich color and light and shadow levels of oil painting, the interest and humanistic spirit of Chinese painting, and the gentle glow and unique texture of paint painting. Various works in different media and styles are intertwined here, creating a more multidimensional and richer Asian art landscape, which fully reflects the limitless possibilities and vibrant life of artistic creation.
At the same time, the overall level of the artists participating in this year’s exhibition has reached new heights. We saw that both people who achieved fame and new talents who were driven by ambition showed a high level of creative enthusiasm and superb skills. The deep thinking, unique perspective and skillful expression contained in the work not only show us the artists’ personal excellence, but also feel the solid improvement and strong impetus of the overall level of Asian contemporary art. Each work is a separate world, telling us a unique story about culture, about life, about this time.
It is especially gratifying that we have also seen a lot of fine art from Nepal, a friendly neighboring country. These works carry the spiritual heritage of the Himalayan Mountains and the long-standing cultural heritage of Nepal, providing us with valuable opportunities for exchange and learning. Art is the most beautiful bridge that connects the mind across borders. We sincerely hope that this biennial will serve as a new starting point to further promote deep dialogue and long-term cooperation with Nepal in the field of culture.
We look forward to establishing more open channels of communication in the future and encouraging more artists to visit each other, gather gossip and create. We look forward to jointly organizing more thematic exhibitions, workshops and academic seminars, so that the essence of the two cultures can yield new inspiration amid mutual excitement. We hope that such cultural exchanges can go beyond the scope of art and extend to a wider range of cultural industries and people-to-people exchanges, so as to build a solid bridge of friendship between the two peoples.
Let us join hands to continue to deepen cultural interactions between China and Nepal and throughout Asia, using color and lines as language and creativity and inspiration as bonds. We believe that through our unremitting efforts, this “art silk road” across the mountains and seas will surely grow wider, contributing the power of our culture to build a more harmonious, pluralistic and humanistic future.
